Who’s the Doctor Here?
Google is a very handy tool for getting surface-level information; and if you’re good at digging, more niche knowledge as well. Despite that, med school exists for a reason, and we aren’t all doctors just because we have the internet at our fingertips. Unfortunately for this patient, the doctor he went to wasn’t in agreement with this belief.
There’s a lot of information to remember, so maybe it’s not entirely crazy for a doctor not to recognize every single symptom immediately–in fact, a doctor who can admit they don’t know everything and puts the work into research through medical journals is a good doctor. But to throw up your hands and tell your patient to Google it? No.
