Hollywood has shown us countless scenes where car doors shield characters from bullets, but in reality, a car’s thin metal won’t stop most bullets, especially larger calibers.

Although a car can provide limited cover, most calibers larger than a .22 will penetrate typical car doors. While cars might still offer some protection in dangerous situations, their ability to stop bullets is largely fictional.
