What is a tab?
A common behavior observed among older individuals regarding technology is their tendency to keep numerous tabs open in their web browsers without ever closing them. Instead of closing tabs once they’ve finished using a webpage, they consistently open new ones, believing that they are simply minimizing the page for later use. Over time, this practice can overwhelm their phone’s storage with thousands of web pages left open in separate tabs, leading to slower device performance and potential frustration when searching for specific pages amidst the clutter.

In one amusing example, someone’s mother had accumulated so many tabs that her phone couldn’t even provide an exact count anymore. Instead of displaying a specific number of tabs, the tab count box showed an infinity symbol (∞), symbolizing the infinite extent of her open tabs. The time required to close all those tabs is enough to make anyone shudder, highlighting the need for digital tidiness and efficient web browsing practices among individuals, regardless of their age or technological proficiency.
