Debunking Car Myths: What Really Works and What Doesn’t

by Chris Eilers

Hey there, fellow drivers and car enthusiasts! Ever heard a tip about car maintenance that sounded a little… too good to be true? Maybe your uncle swore by a secret ingredient for better gas mileage, or a buddy insisted on a weird trick to boost horsepower. Well, get ready to put those myths in the rearview mirror, because we’re about to go on an exciting ride to uncover the truth!

We’re pulling back the curtain on the most common car legends to reveal What Really Works and What Doesn’t when it comes to keeping your ride in top shape and performing its best. Forget the old stories and internet whispers – it’s time to arm yourself with the real knowledge that can save you time, money, and a whole lot of headaches.

So, buckle up, because this is where we get down to business on Debunking Car Myths!

Myth: Setting A Battery On Concrete Drains It

It’s one of the most popular car myths around: the idea that placing a battery on concrete will drain its charge. Surprisingly, this myth has some historical truth. In the past, when battery casings were made of materials more susceptible to moisture, contact with concrete or a damp floor could cause discharge.

However, modern battery casings are constructed with hard, insulated materials that prevent this issue. Today, if a battery loses charge while on concrete, it’s more likely because it’s simply been left unused for too long rather than the concrete affecting it in any way. So, feel free to set that battery on the floor without worry.
