Footage
We use the word footage to refer to any kind of video or film, although the meaning behind the term is somewhat obsolete by now. While technology develops rapidly (and our culture develops with it), it seems as if the language is sometimes lagging behind. We still use words that were relevant in the past, although they are meaningless today.

“Footage” serves as an example of such a word. In the past, the film industry measured movies in feet. And this measurement system was used for screening films in cinemas. The origin of the word can be traced back to the era when film length was measured in feet, giving rise to the term “footage.” Although this method of measuring films has become obsolete, the word “footage” continues to be widely used.
