Expressing Emo Feelings
A young man approached James, requesting a photo edit that would make him appear sad because he identified as “emo” and believed that posting a smiling photo might negatively impact his reputation. It’s reminiscent of a time when being “emo” was considered cool and rebellious, a subculture even explored in a South Park episode that humorously distinguished between “emo” and “goth” styles.

However, when he made this unusual request, James responded with the statement, “You can’t just be sad; there must be a reason.” On this particular point, we beg to differ. Sometimes, sadness descends without an apparent cause, overwhelming us unexpectedly.
