The Art of Tipping
Tipping is common in the United States, with customary gratuities ranging from 15-20% for services such as waiting tables, hospitality, and hairstyling. Even when service falls short of outstanding, leaving at least a 10% tip is customary. Most service industry professionals are doing their best, making it appropriate to reciprocate with kindness.

However, some tips are simply insulting. “Pitiful” doesn’t begin to describe the magnitude of this meager gratuity. Leaving nothing at all might have been less offensive. A suggestion for the tipper: treat others as you’d like to be treated. If you return to this restaurant, don’t expect anything beyond mediocrity.
