Didn’t Get the Memo
In life, certain things should be common sense, but alas, common sense isn’t so common, as exemplified by the DJ in our story. There’s rarely a situation where it’s appropriate to single out widowers and remind them of their loss, and a wedding is not the place for it. Whether the DJ was unaware of the sensitive situation or simply lacking in tact, it remains an uncalled-for and unnecessary gesture.
Of course, one can understand that the DJ might not have been privy to the full context of the wedding, having likely been hired solely for the reception. Nevertheless, the decision to mention widows in such a manner is baffling. What was the DJ hoping to achieve? Was he attempting to inject humor into the proceedings? Some advice for next time: stick to playing music, DJ—you’re not a comedian.
