Lincoln Memorial: Nearly a Century of Construction
President Abraham Lincoln, renowned for his integrity, is one of the most revered Presidents of the United States. Tragically assassinated during a play in 1865, a statue was erected in his honor three years later in front of the District of Columbia City Hall. However, the statue was deemed inadequate, and there was a strong demand for its replacement.

Construction of the Lincoln Memorial as we know it today commenced in 1914, nearly 49 years after the 16th President’s passing. Since then, the Lincoln Memorial has undergone redecoration and restoration, becoming the iconic landmark we recognize today.
