The Transformation of a Northwestern Alaska Glacier
The first photo captures the Northwestern Glacier in all its glory, surrounded by a rocky shoreline and fresh snowfall. Towering icebergs conceal the ocean floor beneath. In the second photo, any vestiges of the glacier have disappeared, replaced by a vast lake.

Over time, this Alaskan glacier has receded about 6 miles, completely vanishing from view. While climate change and glacier melting are topics we often hear about, these photos provide a powerful visual representation of the massive changes that have occurred.
