Lake Lonar in India Turns Rose Red in Just 3 Days
Around 50,000 years ago, a meteorite penetrated Earth’s atmosphere, creating a massive crater and illuminating the sky over what we now know as India. Lake Lonar formed as a consequence of this natural disaster. However, recent events have baffled observers as the lake unexpectedly turned a vivid shade of rose red in just 2-3 days this past June.

Scientists attribute this otherworldly occurrence to a proliferation of algae and microscopic life in the lake’s waters. Lake Lonar is not unique in this regard, as similar pink lakes can be found worldwide, including in the United States, where water turns pink due to algae and microscopic organisms.
