Trick-or-Treat and the Holy Spirit
Growing up, this storyteller had some deeply religious neighbors in their community. One Halloween, rather than distributing candy to eager trick-or-treaters, someone in the neighborhood took a devout approach by handing out full-length Bibles. It was an unusual and somewhat costly Halloween treat, leaving one to ponder how they acquired such a substantial number of Bibles for this purpose. Perhaps they received them as donations from their community church.
Regardless of the source, the neighborhood kids were less than enthused by this unconventional offering. Regardless of their religious backgrounds, no child on Halloween aspired to receive a book as their treat. Their hearts desired sugary delights that would send them into a delightful sugar-induced slumber, not a time to peruse through the night.
