As children, we often harbor an intense obsession with Halloween, with trick-or-treating reigning as the most significant holiday of the year. The anticipation of discovering the wondrous treats that would fill our trick-or-treat bags knew no bounds. However, this excitement often carried an air of snobbery, as different types of candy held varying degrees of value in our young minds.
But what happens when you receive something other than candy? It’s a crushing disappointment! The storyteller vividly recalls the year when they received a toothbrush during trick-or-treating. They were thoroughly disappointed and a bit miffed that an adult would dispense such an uninspiring gift. Looking back, it becomes apparent that the well-intentioned adult delivered a snarky, cautionary message about the perils of excessive sugar consumption.
