If It Works, It Works
Responding with a noncommittal “we’ll see” isn’t limited to just motherhood; it’s a strategy that often finds its way into adult interactions. In many cases, it’s a clever way of saying, “I have no intention of doing anything about this.” Yet, curiously, some individuals never quite grow up, no matter their age. Treating them like children can sometimes be surprisingly effective.
Don’t take my word for it—spend some time in the customer service industry, and you’ll quickly understand what it’s like to feel like you’re babysitting grown adults. The most perplexing part is that there’s often very little you can do to change the situation; it’s what they pay you for. Occasionally, it may even lead to a hint of condescension creeping into your tone, which can be rather telling of the dynamics at play.
