#24: Limber Airway
This person talked about his ‘floppy windpipe,’ which apparently turned out to be very convenient for his mother when he was a baby. The medical term for this phenomenon is tracheomalacia, a medical condition characterized by the abnormal softening or weakening of the tracheal cartilage, causing the windpipe to become floppy and less rigid than usual.
This rare condition can be congenital, meaning it is present from birth, or it can develop later in life due to various factors, such as injury, infection, or prolonged intubation. It can lead to symptoms like noisy breathing, stridor (a high-pitched sound during inhalation), and difficulty breathing, particularly when coughing or crying – which is what this person is describing. Also, apparently, it can make your crying sound like a donkey.
