#46: The Challenges of Ankyloglossia
Relying on the Internet for medical diagnoses isn’t always advisable, but in this instance, it proved surprisingly accurate. This person received a diagnosis of a speech impediment from an online friend they had never met in person. Despite the lack of direct interaction, the friend made an educated guess based solely on a few photos of the storyteller. This unexpected yet accurate diagnosis highlights both the potential and limitations of online interactions in identifying and understanding health conditions.

It’s pretty wild, but this Internet friend was able to observe their chin and jawline and guess that they might be tongue-tied. Turns out, they have been tongue-tied for their entire life and never knew. Believe it or not, being tongue-tied isn’t just a figure of speech. It’s a condition where the bottom of the tongue is attached to the floor of the mouth, causing a speech impediment.
