The Original Penn Station
New York City’s original Penn Station, completed in 1910, was a magnificent Beaux-Arts structure that featured intricate stonework, grand arches, and a massive glass ceiling. It served as a major transportation hub and was considered one of the city’s architectural gems.

However, in the 1960s, the station was torn down to make way for Madison Square Garden, and the modern Penn Station that replaced it pales in comparison to the original. The demolition of Penn Station sparked a preservation movement that has since saved many other historical landmarks from a similar fate.
