Guaira Falls
Once located on the border between Paraguay and Brazil, Guaira Falls was a sight to behold. The roaring falls cascaded with an immense volume of 13 million gallons of water per second, audible from up to 20 miles away. It was a beloved natural wonder, attracting visitors from around the world. In 1982, authorities made the decision to submerge the falls in order to create a vast reservoir for the Itaipu Dam project, permanently altering the landscape.

Now completely underwater, Guaira Falls exists only in memories and photographs. What was once a natural marvel is now part of the artificial lake, leaving a void for those who once marveled at its beauty.
