Thailand’s Maya Bay
Maya Bay on Thailand’s Phi Phi Leh Island was made famous by the movie “The Beach,” drawing millions of tourists to its stunning shores. The bay’s turquoise waters and white sands made it a paradise for visitors, but the influx of tourists caused severe damage to the environment.

Coral reefs were destroyed, and the beach became polluted with trash. In 2018, Thai officials closed Maya Bay to allow the ecosystem to recover. Though officials plan to reopen the bay with stricter regulations, its future remains uncertain as concerns about tourism’s environmental impact persist.
