Disney’s River Country
Disney’s River Country, the first water park at Walt Disney World, opened in 1976 and quickly became a favorite summer destination for families. The park featured a rustic wilderness theme, complete with water slides, a lazy river, and a sandy beach.

However, by 2001, the park had closed for maintenance and never reopened. Over time, River Country was abandoned, overtaken by nature, and eventually became a decaying relic. In 2018, Disney announced plans to redevelop the site, but for many, the original River Country remains a nostalgic memory of simpler times at the park.
