India’s Natural History Museum
In 2016, a devastating fire swept through the National Museum of Natural History in New Delhi, India, destroying its vast collection of priceless artifacts. Despite efforts by 30 fire trucks, the flames consumed everything, including a 160-million-year-old dinosaur skeleton and countless specimens collected over the years.

India’s scientific and historical communities experienced a deep blow from the loss. Discussions about rebuilding have taken place, but much of what was lost remains irreplaceable. This leaves a significant void in the country’s cultural heritage, which cannot be easily restored.
